Quinta Sardonia

The Quinta Sardonia estate is located in Sardón de Duero, just outside the border of the D.O. Ribera del Duero. The French wine-maker Jerome Bougnaud and the versatile Dane Peter Sissek (Hacienda Monasterio, Pingus, Clos d'Agon) take care of the wine.

Quinta Sardonia was well-known when, at the end of 2005, the Spanish gourmet magazine "Sobremesa" reported on the annual tasting of the best Spanish and Portuguese wines from the Ribera del Duero and Douro cultivation areas. Under the title "Un gran río de vino" 30 top wines from Spain and Portugal competed against each other. Quinta Sardonia immediately made it to # 1 and was celebrated as a "new star on the firmament of Duero". The 20 hectares of vineyards are located 830 meters between Sardón and Tudela de Duero. Half is planted with Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), the other half is a whole mix of grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. The vineyard, like Hacienda Monasterio, is managed according to strictly biodynamic criteria. For example, it is fertilized with its own compost, the natural balance of the soil, the vines are treated with "medicinal" plants and the moon phases are observed during cultivation and harvesting.
