HACIENDA MONASTERIO

Hacienda Monasterio was founded in the early 1990s a few kilometers outside Pesquera del Duero. An ecological consultant was at that time still completely unknown Peter Sissek.

Situated high on a hillside, the futuristic low-rise building fits perfectly into the landscape. The winery was designed by French landscape architect Philippe Maziéres, who had already worked for Château Margaux and Château d'Yquem. The wines are produced from about 80% Tempranillo and 20% Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon and sometimes also a little Malbec or Petit Verdot. Peter Sisseck, who has been responsible for Hacienda Monasterio since 1990, is supported by Carlos de la Fuente, ambitious cellar master, who has contributed significantly to the style of the wines. Sisseck and de la Fuente have managed to capture the extreme terroir perfectly in the juicy, full-bodied and impressive mineral wines. Hardly any other Ribera house shows a comparable intensity and elegant concentration of its wines like Hacienda Monasterio. The wines of Monasterio are incomparably beautiful, Bordo style Riberas far from the mainstream of the wines from Ribera del Duero.
